UpCapital's portfolio company, Atlas Power Technologies, is on track to build their new supercapacitor manufacturing facility. Located in Abbotsford, the facility will be the first of its kind in Canada.

Atlas Power has been developing their supercapacitors since 2016 and has been in collaboration with the University of British Columbia and Mitacs, a Canadian innovations organization. Using high-grade, activated carbon as their key battery component has not only yielded breakthrough results over traditional lithium-ion batteries but has allowed for byproducts of the oil sands to be reused in a cleaner, more efficient, and cost-effective way.

The new facility is scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2022.
